The peri-peri flavour originated from the Portuguese, though it is also known to have African roots. The name peri-peri came from Africa’s bird’s-eye pepper called piri-piri. It has always been a people’s favourite. This dish has evolved over time, as the years go by, people seem to crave it even more.

Though it is commonly sold at restaurants, you can get all that deliciousness at home and even better, the healthy version.Peri peri chicken can be served with rice, quinoa or fries. In this post, the chicken was served with fries.Fries can be somewhat unhealthy because of its high calorie and fat. So why consume so much unhealthy calories, when you can get the healthy version at home with less amount of money spent.The secret to peri-peri chicken is in the marinade.The sauce gives it the awesome mouth-watering taste. It is a mix of spices. The synergy between the african bull’s eye pepper, garlic and lemon gives it a thang!Get all these goodness on your table.

Peri-peri chicken with fries

Mouth-watering peri-peri chicken with fries

Ingredients
  

  • 250 G Chicken breast
  • 5 Medium-sized Cloves of garlic
  • 1 Tbsp Salt
  • 1/4 Cup Lemon juice
  • 5 Medium-sized African bird's-eye peppers
  • 1 Tbsp Ginger powder
  • 1 Cup Olive oil Extra virgin
  • 1 Tsp Dried thyme
  • 1 Tsp Dried rosemary
  • 6 Large Potatoes
  • 1/4 Cup Flour
  • 1 Tbsp Paprika

Instructions
 

  • In a bowl, pour the 1 cup of olive oil, the african bull-eyes peppers, cloves of garlic, salt, lemon juice, ginger, thyme and rosemary. Blend all these together, do not add water.
    In a bowl, pour this mixture add the chicken breast cover this with cling film. Allow this to marinate for 45 minutes of over night.
    On a grill, put the chicken breasts gently on medium heat. Cook for 45 minutes to an hour.
    For the potato,
    Peel and slice the potatoes as desired
    Boil the potatoes for 20 minutes
    Strain them in a colander
    Allow them to cool
    In a plastic bag, gently put the potatoes and flour till the potatoes don't look moist.
    Add the paprika.
    Pour this into a baking pan or on a grill
    Sprinkle olive oil on the potatoes
    Bake or grill at medium heat for 30 minutes.
    Now serve the chicken and potatoes peri-peri style.
