Are your kids and pets always playing together? Do you fear they may hurt each other? Do not worry, you are not alone. Many parents face these problems. A lot of kids love pets and find playing with them fun and exciting. But what happens when the fun and games become too much for your pet to handle? It may lead to your cat scratching your kids or your dog biting them!

Not to worry because you being alert while they play and some simple steps can help you reduce the possibilities of these happening. Read on to educate yourself on some simple ways your kids and pets can play safely:

1.Train your dogs: Training your dog is always a good idea, it teaches them some obedience and gives you a little control over them. Simple tricks like “come” and “off” will really make a difference. You can try enrolling them in a dog class near you or rather attend a simple but effective online class on how you can train your dog effectively. Training your dog yourself builds your bond and helps you both understand each other better.

2. Supervision: A very important step to consider is never to leave your pets and kids to play without your supervision. Kids are still kids and pets are still pets. A lot can happen when you are not there. It is advisable to keep an eye on them while they play.

3. Create a healthy separation between your kids and your pets. Separating the two will prevent each party from getting overwhelmed by the other. This distance can be created using brilliant separating tools like these ever-reliable baby gates around your house. This way you can separate them when you want.

Explain to your child why playing safe with your pet is very important. Just as you train your pets your child should also be educated about playing safely. This can be achieved with some simple instructions:

-When a pet is eating, sleeping or just having its own time, they do not like to be interrupted. Explain to your child why it is important to not interrupt your pet while it’s doing its thing. Interruption may lead to a scratch or bite.

– Avoid unexpected movements. Some pets might get startled when surprised. This may cause them to snap!

– Playing gently when around your pet is crucial, because a lot of pets are not big fans of rough-plays. Behaviors like running around and making loud noises may annoy your pets or make them feel uncomfortable.

– Unnecessary contacts with the pets should also be avoided. Some dogs feel threatened when touched in a way they are uncomfortable with. Teach your child how they can easily touch or carry your dogs without them getting scared.

– You can sometimes tell a pet’s mood by its behavior. For example, when a dog runs up and down with its tongue out, it usually means it is happy or when a cat wags its tail back and forth, it usually means it is in a bad mood. Teach your child these simple behaviors, so your child knows when and when not to play.

– A lot of cats do not like being carried around. They prefer to stand on their own. Let your child know that your cat does not want to be carried and they are other ways to play. This will prevent your cat from getting annoyed.
